CB&I Africa Oil Week

Unlocking long-term value from Africa’s critical energy assets

Africa’s energy market is entering an exciting and important phase. The region is focused on unlocking the full potential of its subsurface energy resources and building a more independent energy future.

Balancing growth ambition with the challenges of managing maturing assets, maintaining capital discipline, meeting regulatory expectations and addressing the need to build enduring in-country capability and value is vital.

For both new and established operators, the opportunity is significant, but maximizing its value depends on the ability to transition assets smoothly, stabilize performance quickly and unlock more from existing infrastructure.

At CB&I, we help our customers make smarter decisions for their assets – whether onshore or offshore – improving their performance today, protecting value through late life and preparing earlier for safer, more predictable decommissioning outcomes.

One, accountable partner

We bring together deep technical capability, operational leadership, transition discipline and local delivery strategies support across the full asset lifecycle, delivering:

Improved asset performance

By integrating wells, subsurface and facilities expertise, with operations, maintenance, integrity and project delivery know-how, we help customers restore the integrity of their assets and improve uptime, production efficiency, reliability, maintenance performance and cost discipline.

Confidence through complex transitions

We’ve managed more than 50 successful transitions, providing structured mobilization, transition governance and proven African delivery to help protect safety, production, compliance and stakeholder confidence during ownership or operator change.

Clear accountability and lower complexity

Working as one integrated partner, we reduce interfaces, simplify governance and give clients a single accountable model for delivery.

Right-sized lifecycle support

Our global technical network comprises more than 200 subject matter experts, deployed through a hub-and-spoke model to provide the right capability when and where it is needed. This gives customers access to specialist support from acquisition and operations through late life and decommissioning, while keeping resource structures cost efficient.

Sustainable local value

We operate a local delivery model wherever we work, developing in-country teams, local supply chain participation, training and knowledge transfer all work to build lasting capability.

Case Study

GEPetrol, Equatorial Guinea, Block B

We’re supporting Compañía Nacional de Petróleos de Guinea Equatorial (GEPetrol) through an integrated technical services contract for the region’s Block B assets. Our support spans transition management, operations, maintenance, asset integrity, marine services, well engineering, project delivery and supply chain services.

Supporting the transition from Mobil Equatorial Guinea Inc. (MEGI) to GEPetrol, we’ve helped our customer establish the systems, capability and operational confidence required to act as an independent operator across the Serpentina FPSO, Jade platform and associated onshore facilities.

Highlights:

  • Complete management of offshore operations.
  • More than 15 million barrels of crude produced/offloaded.
  • Maintenance backlog reduced by more than 28,000 hours.
  • More than 4 million hours of work delivered.
  • Full integration into the customer’s SAP system.
  • FEED delivered for a well reconnection project.
  • Subsurface model delivered for the Zafiro field as part of field development planning.

Case Study

CNRI, Côte d’Ivoire, Espoir Ivoirien FPSO

Beginning in 2023, we provided integrated services for the Espoir Ivoirien Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) vessel. Around 110 personnel supporting the FPSO, including those onshore and on the vessel were transitioned from BW Offshore, following the sale of the vessel to CNRI.

During this three-year contract we provided integrated operations, maintenance and asset support, strengthening asset reliability and reducing operational risk while enabling the smooth transition of people, suppliers and stakeholder relationships.

Case Study

Tullow Oil, Ghana

We’ve been providing operations services for Tullow Oil’s world-class Jubilee Development in Ghana since 2022, in a joint venture with local operations partner, Rigworld. Our role on the Jubilee Development – one of the largest oil fields discovered offshore West Africa in 20 years – includes the provision of operations, maintenance and technical support services for Tullow Oil’s Kwame Nkrumah (KNK) Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) vessel.

Committed to building a lasting legacy

With a strong focus on developing Ghanaian talent and nationalising the O&M workforce, Ghanaian nationals represented 90% of the workforce by year three.

We have supported the University of Mines and Technology in Tarkwa on a research project exploring AI-based predictive maintenance to mitigate corrosion and pipeline damage in offshore operations. In addition, through our joint venture with Rigworld, we refurbished four classrooms at Kejabil School, helping give the next generation access to fit-for-purpose learning environments.

“Our partnership blends CB&I Asset Solutions’ operational excellence with our in-country expertise – it’s a powerful combination. Truly invested in supporting Ghana’s energy projects, the joint venture is embedded locally, connecting the supply chain, developing the local workforce, and creating a lasting legacy in the community.”
