CB&I provided engineering for the one of the first underground storage projects in the world for British Gas – the Rough Gas Storage Field project. This expertise in underground storage has continued to the present day, as CB&I is executing some of the largest current underground gas storage projects in the world.
One of the many examples demonstrating CB&I’s specialist expertise in this area is our centrifugal compressor experience. At the gas pressures and densities normally encountered with gas storage, special care has to be taken to review the aerodynamic and thermodynamic design of centrifugal compressors and dry gas seals. CB&I has this experience gained through the design and construction of many centrifugal compressors systems, and we also have extensive experience testing these machines under ASME PTC10 class 1 conditions at full pressure on hydrocarbon gas.
