British Gas expanded and developed the North Morecambe Gas Field in three sections: offshore, sealine and onshore facilities. CB&I was retained by British Gas to provide engineering, procurement and construction services for some of the terminal facilities at Barrow-in-Furness, United Kingdom.
We designed the terminal's systems for receiving and liquid removal, methanol recovery, CO2 removal, N2 removal by liquefaction and fractionation, dew point control, condensate stabilization and compression for transmission to the National Grid. By utilizing modular construction techniques, we were able to minimize erection work at the installation site.
In designing the facilities, we took into account several technical challenges, including abandoned pulverized fuel ash lagoons, relatively severe seismic conditions and feed gas composition impurities that required relatively complex processing.
