CB&I is one of a few companies to offer a true EPC solution for penstocks, scroll cases and bifurcations. We have the in-house resources to design, fabricate and install these massive steel structures, which feed water from rivers and other waterways to hydroelectric plants.

Our projects have included new installations as well as repairs and modifications to existing structures. We offer a single-point solution that includes design and analysis, procurement, fabrication, project management and installation.

Our innovative approach. These projects require meticulous planning and execution because the components are often installed in remote or environmentally sensitive areas. To meet these challenges, we apply creative solutions such as off-site assembly, localized post - weld heat treatment, innovative rigging and special heavy-lift techniques. We plan our projects in painstaking detail to minimize their impact on the environment and on other activities at the installation site and to ensure the safety of our people and our customers.

We are one of the few engineering and construction companies to operate in-house fabrication facilities. These shops provide optimal quality and timely delivery of components and parts for our hydroelectric projects. Our shops are fully equipped for hot forming, heat treating, weld assembly, non-destructive examination, blasting and painting. They employ highly skilled craftspeople who understand our standards and work processes and can fabricate components from steel, alloys and other materials to precise specifications.

A leader in quality assurance. We are recognized for our excellence in welding and quality assurance (QA) technology. We've developed standardized policies and processes to ensure consistency of welding and QA activities for all our projects. Our Welding and QA Technology group provides consulting services and training for our craftspeople and technicians worldwide, develops specialized welding equipment and tests new welding processes. Our project teams implement detailed quality assurance/control procedures for every step of our projects, including welding, heat treating, nondestructive examination, cleaning and repair.

For projects that require specialized rigging or heavy-lifts, we count on the know-how of our Construction Technology group, a team of seasoned construction planners who are experts in rigging, heavy lifting and other construction disciplines. They help select equipment and develop site-specific erection plans for some of our most complex and logistically challenging projects, and they constantly look for safer, more efficient construction methods.
