CB&I is an alliance supplier of Merox™ process units. We have designed and built more than 60 units throughout the world utilizing UOP’s licensed process technology for reducing sulfur in hydrocarbon streams.
The Merox process provides refiners an efficient, reliable method for controlling mercaptan sulfur in gases, LPG, naphtha and other petroleum fractions. Mercaptans can either be
extracted from the
stream or converted (sweetened) to acceptable disulfides.
We engineer and build new process units, and we retrofit existing units. And because we provide a full range of refining solutions, we can engineer Merox units that complement a refinery’s existing hydrotreater or other process unit. Operating costs for these units are low because costs for catalyst, chemicals and energy use are small, and little operator attention is needed for these highly reliable processes.
Modular construction offers options. Most of our customers opt for modular construction of their Merox units. By minimizing fieldwork, we reduce the project’s impact on the customer’s operations, an important consideration when the project site is located within an operating plant. Modular construction also minimizes project delays due to inclement weather and can reduce labor costs. Safety is also enhanced because “in-air” work is eliminated.
We offer fully integrated EPC services on a lump-sum, turnkey basis for Merox projects. Our services include detail engineering that incorporates UOP’s process design specifications, shop fabrication at our in-house facilities, foundations and underground work, modular or stick-built construction, mechanical interconnections and operator training.
Refiners can’t afford surprises when it comes to sulfur control. They count on us to meet their specifications and provide reliable units. By offering a full range of integrated in-house services we ensure all work is performed according to our stringent quality control standards, and projects are delivered on time and on budget.
