LNG Storage  

For half a century, CB&I has focused on providing superior solutions for liquefied natural gas (LNG) storage. Our projects include more than 200 LNG storage tanks throughout the world, including the world's first double-wall storage and full containment tanks.

We provide comprehensive design-build services for LNG storage tanks and LNG facilities. We deliver projects on a lump-sum, turnkey basis, using our own resources to provide engineering, conceptual design, detail design, facility optimization, project planning and management, procurement, fabrication, construction, commissioning and operator training.

A smart way to do business. Our true EPC business model translates into reduced total cost of ownership for our customers. This approach also enables us to shorten project schedules, minimize the customer's risk and maintain rigorous quality control through every step of the project. We provide single-point responsibility so our customers don't have to worry about the delays, inefficiencies and duplication of effort that can occur when multiple contractors are involved.

For every LNG storage project, we carefully evaluate the customer's requirements and recommend the solution that provides the greatest long-term value. Our team of experienced civil, structural and construction engineers strives to optimize the entire storage tank project rather than focusing on a particular component.

Global, yet local. With offices worldwide, we have the resources to design and build LNG storage tanks in any location and under all types of logistical constraints. Our people have the localized knowledge to provide front-end permitting and regulatory compliance support all the way through startup. We direct-hire and train local field personnel whenever possible, and we can quickly mobilize large erection crews anywhere they are needed.

Our unique business model, integrated resources and global presence translate into low-risk, high-value LNG storage solutions for our customers. We provide a variety of LNG storage options, including:

  • Single containment tanks - Our single containment tanks typically feature a primary liquid containment open-top inner tank, a carbon steel primary vapor containing outer tank and an earthen dike for secondary liquid containment.
  • Full containment tanks - Full-containment tanks typically feature a primary liquid containment open-top inner tank and a concrete outer tank. The outer tank provides primary vapor containment and secondary liquid containment. In the unlikely event of a leak, the outer tank contains the liquid and provides controlled release of the vapor.

Memphis LNG Peak Shaving Facility

The Memphis LNG peak shaving facility in Tennessee was a turnkey design, supply, construction and commissioning project that reduced the need for expensive pipeline transportation costs.

  • 1 BSCF (290,000 BBL) net capacity LNG storage tank with 5.5 MMSCFD liquefaction production rate
  • The plant may be monitored or operated from a remote location
