Floating production storage and offloading systems (FPSO) are gaining importance as energy companies develop fields in deeper water and more remote locations. FPSO projects present special design challenges because the vessel, topsides and associated systems must often withstand powerful currents and harsh weather conditions.
CB&I is a leading supplier of FPSO units to the offshore oil and gas industry. Over the past 30 years, we've provided design and engineering services for more than 20 FPSO projects in the North, Caspian and Timor seas as well as Southeast Asian waters. Our customers include many of the world's largest oil and gas producers.
Providing specialized expertise. We have the specialized in-house expertise to design and build FPSO facilities that provide years of safe and reliable service even under the most challenging operating environments. Our staff includes experienced naval architects who specialize in designing topsides for FPSO vessels and engineers who have designed and managed a full range of offshore oil and gas production, processing and storage facility projects.
We operate an extensive global network of engineering, procurement, equipment and construction management resources that can be quickly mobilized whenever and wherever they are needed. With offices worldwide, we have people who understand the regulatory, logistical and environmental issues of the locations where we work and can quickly solve problems. We've also built solid relationships with respected international construction and marine design companies as well as other contractors.
Developing specialized solutions. Every offshore project is different, so we deliver a solution that is tailored to our customers' requirements. Some our of projects entail providing topsides for converted tankers, barges or new FPSO vessels. For other projects, we've provided a full spectrum of offshore components, including topside, weathervane and turret mooring systems, pipelines, drilling and production platforms, and subsea systems.
We continually develop innovative designs and look for cost-effective methods to build better FPSOs. We supported and served on a number of steering committees for the Cost Reduction Iniative for the New Era (CRINE), a British organization that worked to reduce the cost of exploring for and producing oil in the North Sea. We developed designs for FPSOs that could safely withstand the harsh conditions of the North Sea. And we executed a major FPSO project that surpassed many industry benchmarks for safety, cost and speed of completion.
