Flue Gas Desulfurization  

CB&I's experience with flue gas desulfurization (FGD) systems goes back nearly two decades. We've participated in FGD projects in North America, South America, Africa and Europe. Our systems provide power plant operators and refinery owners a reliable, effective way to reduce sulfur emissions for regulatory compliance. Our expertise spans the full spectrum of FGD technologies, including regenerative and non-regenerative systems utilizing a variety of wet, dry and semi-dry processes. Thus, we can identify and provide the technology that is most appropriate for our customers' needs.

Offering full-service FGD expertise. We offer a complete range of EPC services for FGD projects, including conceptual development studies, technical consulting, front-end engineering and design, detail engineering, procurement, fabrication, construction and construction management. Our FGD projects have included everything from designing and building complete FGD systems and retrofitting existing systems to providing individual FGD components and performing repairs.

We execute flue gas desulfurization projects on a turnkey EPC basis, performing all the work with our own resources whenever possible and doing the job for a fixed price. This approach allows us to control costs, optimize project schedules, manage the customer's risk and provide quality assurance through every phase of the work. Our customers don't have to worry about unpleasant surprises. And our unique business model simplifies project oversight, so clients can focus on their core operations.

Our single-source EPC approach is possible because we have a large global network of people, facilities and equipment. We are one of a small number of EPC companies that have their own fabrication facilities. We can quickly mobilize engineers, craftspeople, construction crews and equipment and procure the materials needed for virtually any work location. Our longstanding practice of direct-hiring and training local labor provides us with a vast pool of people who understand the business practices, cultures and regulations of the communities where they work.

Selecting the right technology. Every flue gas desulfurization system we design and build is backed by our many years of experience in FGD technology, as well as our extensive process and wastewater treatment expertise. We assist our customers in identifying the FGD technology that will provide the best results and value for their specific needs. We've designed systems to accommodate a number of operational variables such as fuel sulfur levels, byproduct and wastewater requirements, sorbent quality and plant capacity.
