Field erection of industrial pressure vessels is sometimes more practical and cost-effective than shop assembly when all factors are considered. As an expert in both field-erection and modular construction, CB&I works closely with plant owners to identify the most suitable construction method.
We evaluate all the factors that can impact the cost of a project and the project schedule so we can recommend the solution that best serves the customer's needs. We base our recommendations on the thousands of process vessels we've designed and built around the world. These projects have included absorbers, fractionators, coke drums, regenerators, towers, converters, digesters and columns.
Benefits of field erection. Site assembly is often more cost effective for larger process vessels because the associated costs for insurance, shipping and heavy-lift equipment rentals can add up. A number of factors must be considered, such as the charges associated with international shipping, cost of road improvements that may be required to transport a large vessel, delays that can occur when the unit is shipped by ocean and the availability of space at the installation site for maneuvering a long or heavy vessel. Additional costs may result when the installation site must be improved to accommodate heavy-lift cranes and heavy process vessels.
The importance of planning. When site assembly is determined to be the best choice, we develop a comprehensive plan that ensures the project is completed on schedule with minimal disruption to the customer's other operations. During construction, we apply our expertise in site preparation, materials procurement, construction technology, welding and examination, heat treatment and heavy lifting to build a superior vessel. We implement proven quality assurance and safety procedures to ensure quality construction and minimize the risks associated with plant construction.
We offer an integrated solution because we believe this approach delivers the best quality and value for our customers. Whenever possible, we perform the work with our own resources, drawing upon our global network of procurement offices, fabrication facilities and specialized construction crews. We direct hire and train local craftspeople and teach them our processes, tools and standards. For more than a century, this true EPC strategy has helped us deliver superior results on time and within budget. Contact: FieldErectedPressureVessel@cbi.com
