Our ability to fabricate equipment is a key part of our integrated, true EPC business model. As one of the few EPC companies to maintain in-house fabrication facilities, we can ensure timely delivery and superior quality of components for our projects. And our comprehensive technical standards and quality assurance procedures allows us to deliver consistent, high quality results for all our projects.
Our global facilities include strategically located shops that can perform steel plate fabrication, modular fabrication and assembly, parts manufacturing, painting, blasting, post-weld heat treating, nondestructive examination and testing. For large or complex projects, we may set up field fabrication facilities at or near the construction site.
Efficient construction methods. One of our key competencies is modular construction of process plants and plant components. Modular components are fabricated and pre-assembled at our shops and can be shipped virtually anywhere in the world for field installation. Fabricating components in-house allows us to exercise stringent quality control, minimize weather delays and often shorten project schedules. Components can be test fitted in our shops, eliminating the potential for fitting errors in the field.
Modular construction also allows various aspects of the project-such as permitting and shipping arrangements-to be accomplished concurrently. Fabricating and assembling components in advance minimizes the project's impact on the customer's site, an important consideration when the installation site is located within an operating plant. In addition, in-air fieldwork is minimized, translating into lower risk and potentially lower labor costs for the customer.
High fabrication standards. Our shops employ highly skilled welders, equipment operators, machinists, electricians and carpenters who understand our standards and work processes. These seasoned craftspeople can fabricate high-quality components from steel, alloys, aluminum, copper and other materials. We can work with metal plate more than 1¾ inches thick, work with double-curved plate and other challenging materials and produce components that satisfy the most exacting specifications-without unpleasant surprises. Our facilities also feature fit-up areas for trial fitting of our equipment.
Our shops receive technical support from our in-house welding and metallurgical laboratory, which performs chemical analysis, testing, heat treatment, failure and stress analysis, fatigue assessment and corrosion studies. Our welding and quality assurance group implements companywide standards and procedures for welding; develops new welding methods and equipment; trains our global personnel in welding, heat treatment and nondestructive examination; and offers technical consulting services for our projects. This group also develops, implements and manages comprehensive quality assurance systems to ensure our work meets or surpasses industry standards and technical codes.
