Woodside Burrup Pty. Ltd. selected CB&I to produce liquefied natural gas (LNG) storage tanks in the Burrup Peninsula near Karratha, Australia. CB&I’s work scope for this project included the engineering, procurement, construction, and pre-commissioning of two 120,000 cubic meter LNG storage tanks, two 60,000 cubic meter condensate storage tanks, and a 10,000 cubic meter condensate storage tank CB&I were also responsible for all piping and mechanical work and the installation of the in-tank pumps.
The tank foundations were composed of concrete slab, Foamglas® insulation, concrete bearing ring, and a foundation heating system. The LNG concrete outer tank walls and outer roofs included steel liners. Each full-containment LNG tank consists of a concrete outer tank designed to contain the product in the unlikely event of an inner tank failure.
The project took one million field work-hours with a peak field staff of 350.
