CB&I was awarded a lump-sum turnkey contract for a liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal expansion project located near Lusby, Maryland.
CB&I’s scope of work for the Cove Point Terminal Expansion Project included the engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning for the 800 million standard cubic feet per day (SCFD) regasification and sendout process equipment, gas turbine generation, and two 160,000 cubic meter LNG storage tanks. The scope also called for new administration, control and maintenance buildings and all ancillary systems.
The project increased the facility’s sendout capacity from 1 billion SCFD to 1.8 billion SCFD, and nearly doubled storage capacity from 7.8 billion cubic feet to 14.6 billion cubic feet of natural gas. CB&I supported the permit filing process with the U.S. Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC).
The project expended approximately 500,000 field work-hours. The two new storage tanks are approximately 270 ft (63.1 m) in diameter by 105 ft (32.0 m) tall.
