One of CB&I’s core areas of expertise is the design of topsides modules and processing equipment for offshore facilities. Our experience ranges from small unmanned platforms to some of the largest topsides in the world. We pride ourselves on our ability to optimize a development to a client's specific needs, resulting in the best possible value. This comes from extensive experience, not only in design but also in module fabrication and construction, operation and maintenance.
Since 1990, CB&I has been involved in more than 60 offshore projects, with contracts ranging from design to detailed engineering, procurement, installation and commissioning (EPIC) assistance.
Our breadth of experience
CB&I has in-house multi-discipline capabilities, providing a single point of responsibility for all engineering and management aspects of a project. Our scope of services spans all phases of offshore work from initial field development and concept screening to full field development, detailed design, procurement, through-life modifications and third party tie-ins to existing platforms.
CB&I is one of the world leaders in:
- Integrated decks
- Wellhead platform
- High pressure/high temperature platforms
- Compression platforms
- Normally unmanned installation (NUI) platforms
Through a heritage built upon the industry’s leading names (John Brown, Humphreys and Glasgow, Earl and Wright, Kvaerner Oil and Gas, Lummus and Crest Offshore), we have established a reputation for technology and innovation in topsides design, simplifying and reducing the complexity of topsides to minimize development CAPEX and operating costs.
Areas of improvement gained through our extensive topsides design experience that directly impact the success of a project include:
- Predefined concepts and "building blocks"
- Established systems and procedures for design and procurement
- Seamless transfer of data through the development cycle (e.g., design to fabrication site)
Safety has always been at the forefront of this drive, ensuring safe and simple facilities operation. This overall approach provides CB&I with the experience and capability to develop the most cost-effective and safe designs.
Another aspect critical to the delivery of an offshore project is a smooth transition through the stringent regulatory safety requirements. CB&I is one of the few contractors with current experience of the North Sea regulatory regime (UK Safety Case and NORSOK).
