CB&I has designed and built Claus sulfur recovery units, amine units, sour water stripping units, Oxygen Injection™ units, liquid sulfur degassing units, tail gas treating units and thermal incineration units around the world. Offering a complete package of EPC services—from conceptual design through commissioning—we consistently deliver systems and services that provide superior long-term value to our customers.
CB&I sulfur recovery units are highly energy-efficient, providing optimal energy consumption while meeting the most stringent product and emission specifications.
Our services include:
- Feasibility studies to assess project viability, schedules, capital expenditures, and operating and maintenance costs
- Technology packages (schedule “A” packages)
- Front-end engineering and design (FEED) packages
- Design engineering applying proven solutions for project-specific requirements
- HAZOP analyses using expertise developed from a broad base of experience
- Detailed engineering, procurement, fabrication, modularization and construction using in-house staff and facilities
- Startup, commissioning and operator training performed by our in-house engineering and project staff
Whenever possible, we perform every phase of the work with our own in-house resources. This integrated approach is possible because we are one of the few engineering firms to maintain in-house fabrication facilities, and we've assembled a global network of top-notch engineering, procurement and construction resources. We believe that "building what we design and designing what we build" provides the best value for our customers and allows us to deliver superior results and shorter project schedules, often at a lower cost.
Efficient construction techniques
We build sulfur-processing facilities utilizing both modular and conventional construction methods, depending on the project requirements. Modular units are fabricated by skilled craftspeople at our in-house shops and can be shipped anywhere for installation. Thus, fieldwork is minimized, resulting in fewer weather delays and reducing the impact of the project on the customer's site. By fabricating components in our shop, under controlled conditions, we can ensure all work meets our quality and safety standards. This also minimizes "in-air" work, which can reduce the customer's risk. Modular construction can also lower labor costs by reducing on-site requirements for highly-skilled craftspeople.
When it comes to field-erection, we are unsurpassed. Our in-house construction technology experts provide construction engineering and consulting services to our project teams and customers worldwide. We constantly seek better methods, tools and equipment for safely erecting high-quality structures more efficiently. And we've developed specialized equipment for performing heavy lifts in congested work areas and rigging techniques to make elevated work safer.
CB&I provides spare parts, replacements, modifications and upgrades post-project. Parts include, but are not limited to, burner tips, burner tiles, sulfur seal legs, tube ferrules and Claus Combustors™. We can expedite quality fabricated parts or equipment in emergency situations.
Amine treating is one of the most widely-used and cost-effective methods of removing hydrogen sulfide and carbon dioxide from hydrocarbon streams. CB&I's solutions for refiners include reliable specialty and conventional amine plants to meet a variety of specifications.
CB&I has installed more than 40 tail gas treating units—with capacities from 4 to 800 long tons per day—that employ our patented Resulf™ technology to recover remaining sulfur compounds from the Claus process.
CB&I supplies sour water stripping units for the removal of hydrogen sulfide and ammonia from refinery wastewater. Around the world, we have designed and built more than 45 sour water stripping units with capacities of 32 to 925 gallons per minute.
CB&I specializes in providing effective sulfur control and removal solutions to the global refining industry. A true EPC company, we provide complete design-build services for Claus plant projects on a lump sum, turnkey basis.
